LawRight is hoping this year’s Red Wine for Justice will be as successful as the last fundraiser, which was impacted by the pandemic.
Red Wine for Justice is held every two years, and Linda Macpherson, Co-CEO of LawRight, explained the last event was October 2022 although it had to be postponed three times due to COVID.
“In 2022-2023, LawRight through its programs of Pro Bono Connect, Court and Tribunal Services and Community and Health Justice Partnerships, improved justice for 1782 people and our members contributed over 16,000 pro bono hours,” Linda said.
“Through fundraising such as Red Wine for Justice, LawRight is able to continue to significantly subsidise our programs to meet the need of those most vulnerable individuals where it is most needed.
“The event in 2022 raised $80,000 and we hope that this year’s event will be just as successful. ”
The fundraiser, hosted by Herbert Smith Freehills, will be held on Friday, 23 August, from 6pm to 9pm on level 32, The Grove, 480 Queen Street, Brisbane.
Linda said Red Wine for Justice first began in 2010 when Tony Woodyatt was Director of LawRight (then QPILCH).
“Tony was inspired by a Cocktails for a Cause event that some of our volunteers had run in earlier years and so began the biannual Red Wine for Justice,” she said.
“Funds raised at the event help LawRight to continue to meet the need of the most vulnerable and marginalised Queenslanders that would not otherwise be met relying solely on government funding.
“The event is attended by supporters of LawRight including judges, lawyers, barristers and their friends and colleagues.
“It is a great opportunity to network with other members of the legal profession and participate in a spirited auction of many quality wines to help raise much-needed funds for LawRight. There is also a wine identification game and a silent auction.”
