Ending use of watch houses on agenda

National Children’s Commissioner Anne Hollonds will be among the experts at an online discussion next week about ending the use of watch houses for children in the state. 

Also joining the free Queensland Council of Social Services (QCOSS) event on Wednesday will be Queensland Family and Child Commissioner Natalie Lewis; Queensland Police Service Deputy Commissioner Camron Harsley and Inspector Jeff Coote; Youth Empowered Towards Independence CEO Genevieve Sinclair; and Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak Acting Executive Director, Strategy, Helena Wright.

Human Rights of Children – Ending the Use of Watch Houses will delve into the latest discussions, reports, reviews, and initiatives focused on protecting the human rights of young people and ending the use of watch houses for children.

It will also look at how the use of watch houses intersects with broader human rights principles, and how to form a practical path forward.
