The Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG) is changing the way that 24-hour transcription requests are managed.
Current practice
Currently any person may request a 24-hour transcript which is assessed by DJAG for eligibility. If treated as a 24-hour request, a 10-business hour turnaround timeframe applies to the request which starts when the request is assigned to a Transcript Service Provider (TSP).
If the request is assigned to a TSP after 6pm, the 10-business hour timeframe starts at 8am the following day.
What is changing
DJAG will implement a new cut-off time of 3pm for 24-hour requests. Any request assigned to a TSP after 3pm will be deemed received at 8.01am the following business day. No change is being made to the 10-business hour turnaround timeframe, or to other request types.
To ensure requests are processed promptly, DJAG encourages practitioners to lodge 24-hour requests as early as possible before 3pm. It is important to ensure the information provided when submitting a request is accurate and complete to avoid any delay.
It is anticipated these changes will start in October 2024 following implementation of necessary system changes.

This change is intended to support more accurate timeframes for delivery of 24-hour transcripts, appropriate prioritisation of transcription resources for delivery of same day and urgent requests, and support improved on-time delivery of transcripts.
