The Australian Taxation Office is reminding practitioners of its in-house facilitation service to help resolve tax and super disputes.
Facilitation can be requested or the ATO can offer it. From there, an accredited ATO facilitator meets with the client, their representative and ATO officers to identify issues, develop options, consider alternatives and attempt to reach a solution.
Traditionally, facilitation was held face to face. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the facilitation service has adopted online channels so that it remains available.
Every facilitator is a nationally accredited mediator and will guide the parties through the process and aim to keep communication open and help the parties to find some middle ground.
